[ embarrassment, luckily, changes into his usual grumpy tiny rage. so, he stamps his foot, overwhelmed a bit by the sheer amount of emotions he's experienced in the past five minutes and latching onto the one he knows best. ]
I'm twenty-shree yearsh old, 'm not cute!! Beshides, what kinda pershon looksh at sat ash normal!!
[ the dream, not the poster. that's at least a little more normal. ]
[ Oh, feisty. Now that's cute, and Kuro can't help but turn and look back at him, eyebrows raising up. Interested and amused, but giving him a bit of a look-over. Because, well, it would be a bald-faced lie if he said that this guy wasn't his type in a lot of different ways. But he's pretty sure he should poke a little less, and keep it from getting out of hand.
After all, first impressions were already... interesting. ]
S'not normal at all. [ A shrug. ] But if this's a dream, what's there to be upset about?
Ughh, yew made me mesh up my wordsh... [ god. okay. he takes a deep breath to keep from stuttering any more and finally steps away from the poster, looking back at it a little despairingly.
well, it's on his real wall. there's probably no getting rid of that. putting his hands on his hips, he huffs a little, now that he has his ~cool niichan composure~ back. ] It being a dream doesn't make it any less embarrassing. I didn't expect to turn around and see you.
[ a pause, and he looks away, some of the red finally fading to a pinkish color in his cheeks. ] ...it's Nazuna. Nazuna Nito.
[ Pretty sure he messed up his words all his own. But Kuro just hums a low noise, still amused but not necessarily mean. All right, all right, he'll be nicer. Or, some semblance of it. But he does glance back at the poster for one moment, and then gives -
Well, Nazuna his full focus. ]
Not like I was expectin' it either. But it's interestin', too, 'specially since I can't shake the thought that maybe I've seen you before.
[ He slides his hands into his pockets, casual as can be and flashing him a grin. ] I figure you know who I am, but. Kuro Kiryu.
[ how is he so calm about this. how is anyone calm after any of that. nazuna's heartbeat is still beating as fast as a trapped rabbit's in his chest as he comes down from it, to be honest, and it's only "i've seen you before" that makes him pause.
he wrinkles his nose. ] I know your sister. She babysits my siblings sometimes, when she's home.
[ but, the dream around them seems to respond to that same phrase. the landscape shifts, wobbling a little, and nazuna takes a step towards kuro to keep from getting--sucked up, or something--but there's no danger. instead, the scenery changes, to that of a school roof.
he recognizes this. brows furrowed, nazuna asks: ] A hallucinomemory...? [ and turns to look at kuro. ]
[ Because, why sweat over something you don't really have any control of? If they were in danger, then he'd definitely be more riled up over this, but right now, as is... They're fine. Kuro can think of worse things than a domestic wet dream, really.
But he tilts his head the other way, drawing a hand out to snap his fingers. ] That's why. I was wonderin' if it'd be Suzu or Mika, but that makes sense. S'been a while since I last knew she did it, but I've been comin' and goin' more than her lately.
[ What with her being in school for a bit again, and him filling in for bands with missing drummers, nevermind his hunts. But that thought drifts out of mind as things change again, and it's instinct -
He reaches out, fingertips against Nazuna's elbow like he's about to take it and make sure nothing shifts too far out of whack. Even as he stares at the rooftop around them. ] Hm. [ His only response, at first. And then Kuro looks back at him, an eyebrow twitching up. ] This looks familiar to you, too?
[ there's no time to focus on the where they might have known each other, not with the new dreamscape. it seems like they might actually share a memory, and he opens his mouth, then closes it, then nods. ]
Mm... it's called Yumenosaki. If this is what I think it is, then maybe... [ he steps away from kuro and finds one of the chimney stacks on the roof, peering around the edge of it. sure enough, there's another version of him sitting there, a bento box in his lap. his hair's longer, but it's still nazuna, wearing a blue tie.
the other nazuna opens his mouth, and a little music comes out of his throat. the note cracks badly, and nazuna the older winces, his fingers curling around the edge of the wall where he's hiding. ] ...this is one of my memories.
[ Slowly, he looks around again, sort of... taking the new setting in. Kuro doesn't panic, but everything is strange. Different but familiar, in that way that these memories so frequently are. He's not sure how to feel about it being such a familiar thing, that resonates in his chest with a warm kind of fondness right then and there. It's like he's re-remembering something important to him. ]
Yumenosaki Gakuen. [ He remembers. He knows. But he follows after Nazuna, as he goes to peer around the stack.
This younger Nazuna, with his broken voice... he's seen it before.
And then, he knows it's not just Nazuna's memory. He turns when he hears the door to the roof crack open behind them, and reaches to set his hand against this, older Nazuna's upper arm to get his attention. ] Mine, too.
[ watching his own memories doesn't feel nearly as voyeuristic as the rest of the (really) nightmare this has been, so nazuna's not against sneaking to watch. it's not something he's never seen before, either, which means kuro kiryu coming out of the roof door shouldn't be all that surprising.
but all the dots click into place, as he watches kuro walk past them, towards the other nazuna. he brightens, offering him a four finger wave and patting the spot next to him. this is a routine, after all, because back then, they didn't really have any friends.
the older nazuna's heart squeezes in his chest. that fondness and familiarity is mutual: it feels like he's on the verge of uncovering something, but can't quite pull the curtain back all the way. this person... ] ...so, we used to know each other.
[ the other nazuna still hasn't spoken, but he smiles at kuro as they settle by each other, which might be confirmation enough. ] We must have been friends.
[ This feels a little like they own it, in a way. Before it was amusing, and definitely voyeuristic, but now it's theirs. Maybe it's suddenly fresh all over again, but Kuro knows it's theirs. It's his. It's his and Nazuna's.
The other, younger Kuro has his hands on a bento of his own, and doesn't hesitate to flash a smile to the younger Nazuna when he gives him that little wave. ]
Lookin' a lot like it. [ His voice goes soft, watching himself go to take that spot that's been offered up to him, like he belongs there, has sat there a million times before. He has to wonder if he's ever spooked this Nazuna, too. If he's ever gotten him to yelp out that unya! of his, spooking him the first few times he came up. Maybe he did.
Right now, though, he looks like he's where he belongs. Kuro can feel that ghost of loneliness, behind his sternum, that knowledge that he was feared, that he intimidated, that this little rabbit wasn't going to be scared off. ]
[ the scene continues on that way, the two high school versions of themselves interacting as normal. the younger nazuna has a bento on his lap too, and he takes out a piece, interacting with kuro with little hums and noises instead of actually talking. the other kuro's pretty chatty, and it makes the older nazuna smile, naturally leaning in to elbow his kuro a little. ] I think we were really good friends.
[ it's kind of sweet, actually. this memory is nice, for nazuna: it's one of the few positive ones he has of this long haired version of himself. he looks to be enjoying spending time with kuro: at one point, he puffs up a cheek at a tease kuro gives him and socks him in the arm, making the other kuro laugh.
on his own end, he curls his fingers against his sleeve, watching, not looking at kuro next to him. ] ...maybe...it might be a good idea to be that way in this life, too. Right...?
[ The other Kuro seems to understand the melody that Nazuna speaks with, is what gets him. Watching and listening, he chatters on and interprets exactly what Nazuna seems to be trying to say with his hums and noises, the notes, his smiles and expressions. ] That's... honestly, prob'ly an understatement.
[ Because why else would they sit there, cheerfully "talking" as if nothing were strange. So maybe it isn't? Especially when he hears that laugh, because that little fist of Nazuna's couldn't do an ounce of damage to him. Even at - what, seventeen? Eighteen? When he was half the size he is now.
But he can't help but smile in response to Nazuna next to him, now. ] Don't see why we couldn't be friends here, too.
it's not the same one that comes from his once upon a time crush on an attractive drummer in his friend's band, or even really the same one that he feels with leo. watching this scene, seeing a version of himself who was so clearly uncomfortable with himself in every way, shape or form pretty happy is--it's a lot, and looking up to kuro's smile is a lot, too.
he can't help but return it, lips curving up into something soft and warm as he looks up at kuro. he's forgotten the embarrassing dream from earlier, and it's faded into something like this. something comfortable and warm, like falling back into step in a march he'd forgotten he'd dropped out of. ]
...I was thinking the same thing. If...if we remember this tomorrow, [ and hopefully just this part, though he's not saying it. ] let's go grab coffee, or something. What do you say?
I'd hate to forget this kinda dream. [ Not the first one - although that was a different kind of thing altogether - but this one, the memory renewed for the both of them. This high school rooftop with a songbird with clipped wigs, not scared of the thug with veritable blood on his hands.
A lonely kind of life comes with stardom, despite all the people vying for attention. A lonely kind of life comes with the life this Kuro led, but here he is, smiling and laughing with this important person. Maybe he's not the brightest person around, and maybe he can miss the tone of things sometimes, but...
He's not an idiot, here. ] I'd like that. Maybe grab some lunch?
